THESE IDLE GESTURES
A second dose of Mr Brown in one day. Can my heart take it? Of course it can, silly. Is this an ageing Morrisey I see before me on the cover?
I must admit that page 5 and that whole cat thing is very -very- dubious looking!
This is a rather fun zine-well,as “fun” as “Old Slow Hand” gets. Each page is crammed with connected/unconnected sketches that give this book its own unique feel. From the grotesque to the manic and beyond…and then back again. On A4 this looks great so I’m glad Mr Brown decided not to go for A5 format -it would have been a disaster!
Although a bit of this is quite grim I actually found it quite a chuckle in parts!
Liked the final piece at the bottom of page 12!
So where does all this lead? Okay, some art in an issue of Stripburger and something in the up-coming Comix Reader [that I’ll mention more later on] but I think Mr Brown needs to explore the possibility of an agent -most CBOers won’t have seen his colour work, sadly:check out the blog roll for a link. An agent an a couple of compilation books -one colour and one black and white- that can be touted about to publishers and,I have to re-iterate,not British publishers who really don’t care, but European ones.
I think a nice web site ought to help but he is so mincingly sit-back-and-have-a-cup-of-tea about pushing his own stuff.
